ISLAMABAD: The Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) has welcomed an order issued by the High Court (HC) directing the Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe into the disappearance of five labourers.
The APDP in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the victims belonging to Sang Liana in Surankote area of Poonch in the Jammu region had disappeared from Srinagar on June 13, 2005.
“The victims had come to Srinagar for labour work and were staying in Dalgate area. They were lured for labour work by a person working for JAK Rifles through his accomplices and had paid them Rs 1000 in advance,” the statement said.
It said that since their disappearance, the whereabouts of the labourers had not been traced. It added that the accused had been detained by the police but due to an intervention by some high ups from the Indian army and police he was released.
“The recent order from the HC once again provided hope to the victims’ families,” the statement said.
