ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday categorically rejected Indian criticism of the meeting between Kulbhushan Jadhav with his mother and wife and said that the shoes of Jadhav’s wife, which she was wearing upon arrival in Pakistan, were confiscated on security grounds.
FO Spokesman Dr Faisal said that there was something in the shoe of Jadhav’s wife, which is being investigated. He added that the wife, Chetankul, had been provided replacement shoes and all her jewellery was returned to her.
The spokesman confirmed that she acknowledged that she had got all her stuff back, except the shoe, which is being investigated.
Authorities were ascertaining whether the metallic object in the shoe was a camera or a recording chip, added the FO.
Dr Faisal was responding to Indian allegations that during the meeting the “cultural and religious sensibilities of family members [Jadhav’s mother and wife] were disregarded under the pretext of security precautions”.
The mother and wife of convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav visited Pakistan on Monday and met the arrested Indian spy at the FO in Islamabad amid strict security. The FO added in its statement that India has levelled allegations after 24 hours of the visit and Pakistan does not want to get involved in a war of words.
Pakistan’s reply came after criticism from the Indian government which claimed that cultural and religious sensibilities were disregarded due to security.
It was also reported that Chetankul and Avanti were asked to wash their faces to wash away any makeup they were wearing. They were also asked to remove whatever jewellery they were wearing.
