Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad Tuesday accused deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif of following an agenda to delay elections in the country.

Sheikh Rasheed alleged that, “Nawaz Sharif has put an agenda in motion to delay elections by two years.” He said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president had periodically committed contempt of court.

Referring to Nawaz Sharif’s address at PML-N’s social media convention earlier today where the deposed premier had called on supporters to join forces to establish the supremacy of justice in Pakistan, Sheikh Rasheed said that Maryam Nawaz had pushed her father to the point of agitation, while adding that she would make all-out efforts to complete the next task of confronting the judiciary.

During his speech, Nawaz had said that all dictators in the country were given a clean chit by the judiciary. He lamented that General (r) Pervez Musharraf directly challenged the judiciary and broke the constitution, but his cases were still pending in courts. In our case, the apex court had given a verdict in the shortest possible time, he added.

The former premier also showed dissatisfaction on his disqualification by the Supreme Court and said that it was ridiculous that the court disqualified him because he was receiving a salary from his son.

Taking a dig at Imran Khan, Nawaz said that the same court excused a “ladla” (dear one) despite the fact that the same person had admitted to his crime.

Clarifying his stance over allegation of confronting the judiciary, he said that he had campaigned for the supremacy of the same institution in 2009. The ones who have been calling me a coward were the ones who hid in Rawalpindi when the fight for restoration of the judiciary was in full swing.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, while directing his statement towards the deposed prime minister, said that those who established their political careers with the help of dictators were now talking about supporting the democratic system in the country.

Imran lashed out at Nawaz during a joint press conference held alongside Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri.
