Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Amir Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad Monday expressed his concerns over reports suggesting that Pakistan, under US pressure, had agreed to launch operation in North Waziristan Agency, following the visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Admiral Mullen. “Instead of pressing the US to stop drone attacks and not to repeat raids like Abbotabad offensive, the government has meekly moved one step forward to please its patrons”, Prof Khurshid observed in a statement.
He warned the government, military leadership and the nation that the NWA operation, if launched, would be surrendering Pakistan’s sovereignty and its ‘vital national interests’. He said, “Any such move would be a clear violation of the May 14th resolution of the joint session of the Parliament and also that of the resolution of 22nd October, 2008”, he reminded the government. He said Pakistan Army was already engaged in a war thrust on it by the US, which had put the entire tribal region on fire and that the whole country was suffering from the heinous acts of foreign and home-grown terrorists.
