The judiciary is playing the role of a ‘political rival’ as the court hearing the Benazir Bhutto assassination case is trying to implicate former president Pervez Musharraf. These views were voiced by the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), here on Monday, in reaction to the Anti-terrorism Court’s decision of declaring its head Musharraf as proclaimed offender. The party said former president was being victimised without any ‘solid legal provision’.
APML spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said, “The ATC decision was aimed at compelling former president to change his decision to return to Pakistan. But he would return, as scheduled, despite threat of his possible arrest”. Chaudhry observed that rulers were afraid of Musharraf’s growing popularity and hence they harbour a strong desire to restrict him from returning to Pakistan. Fawad said that the government, despite its apparent antagonism towards judiciary, is using the same to gain political objectives. He said the ATC verdict was an attempt to malign the security forces of Pakistan.
