Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member and Baldia Town fire suspect Raees Mamma has been arrested in Malaysia, reported a private media outlet on Saturday.
A wanted suspect in a number of cases, including the 2012 Baldia Town fire, was arrested in Malaysia with the help of Interpol and will soon be brought to Karachi.
Raees Mamma had reportedly left for Dubai after the arrest of another former MQM member Saeed alias Bharam during the Rangers operation in Karachi.
In 2014, then MQM leader and current MQM-Pakistan chief Farooq Sattar had publicly disowned Raees during a TV programme.
In October, another Baldia Town tragedy suspect, MQM’s former Karachi Tanzeemi Committee Hammad Siddiqui, was arrested in Dubai. Later in December, sources said that he was handed over to authorities in Pakistan and is currently in detention.
Nearly 250 people burnt to death after a horrific blaze erupted in the factory in September 2012. The factory was set ablaze over non-payment of Bhatta – protection money, an investigation report into the incident had revealed.
The had report stated that MQM sector in-charge Rehman alias Bhola and Hammad Siddiqui had demanded Rs 200 million extortion from owners of the factory.
