PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minimum Wages Board Monday notified minimum wages for various categories of workers employed in brick kilns across the province.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan held a detailed discussion on the issues of wages of labourers working in the brick kilns industries of the province, and directed the authorities concerned to notify minimum wages for all skilled/semi-skilled and non-skilled workers of the said industry with immediate effect.
It was notified that no discrimination would be made in the wages based on gender, religion, colour, cast, creed, sect, ethnic background or political affiliation of the workers.
The board fixed Rs 16,200 minimum wage for head munshi/accountant at brick kilns, while details of wages announced for other categories is as follows: munshis, clerks and cashiers would get Rs 15,500, masons Rs 16,000, carpenters Rs 15,400, coal workers Rs 15,200, brick kiln workers Rs 15,300, tube-well operator Rs 15,300, water tanker staff Rs 15,200, caretakers Rs 15,200, and cook and guard Rs 15,000.
It was also directed that the departments concerned must ensure the practical implementation of the minimum wages and also enable the employers to observed eight hours per day and 26 days per month as working hours.
The notification further said that more incentives would be ensured for the senior/experienced workers of the said industries.
