  • Senate chairman says US decision to jeopardise global peace, infest region with more violence

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has said that the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) has miserably failed to take any tangible steps and become a collective voice of the Muslim world after the recent controversial decision of US President Donald Trump to shift the American Embassy to Jerusalem.

Talking to Palestinian Ambassador Walid Ahmad Mehmood Abu Ali, who called on him here at the Parliament House on Monday, he said that the declaration by President Trump to shift the US Embassy to Jerusalem has provided fuel to the new wave of terrorism in the world.

Rabbani said that the Palestine and Kashmir were the oldest disputes on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council to which the world community has turned a blind eye. He said that the decision of the US president was unfortunate and would give rise to new Intifada in the region.

He apprised the Palestinian envoy that the Senate after five-hour discussion passed a resolution condemning the US move and the session was adjourned without taking any further business as a mark of solidarity with the Palestinians. He said that he was disappointed with the outcome of the OIC Summit as it should have taken concrete steps.

Over the years, resolutions and condemnations have been coming but no tangible measures have been taken, he said. He said that the people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and would continue to extend moral and diplomatic support for the Palestinian cause.

Ambassador Abu Ali thanked Chairman Raza Rabbani, the Senate, the government and the people for their support to the Palestinian cause especially in the wake of the recent development.
