ANP gives 72 hours to KESC for taking back 4,500 workers

The Awami National Party (ANP)-Sindh has issued a 72-hours ultimatum to the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to reinstate 4,500 employees or prepare for a “full-scale agitation”. ANP-Sindh President Shahi Syed, speaking at a press conference on Sunday at the Mardan House, said that the 4,500 workers protesting since the past 31 days in front of the Karachi Press Club were sacked without any reason. “KESC had an agreement with NEPRA that the services of 7,500 employees will not be terminated. Because of this agreement, the KESC got billions of rupees benefit from NEPRA and now they are reneging on this agreement,” he said.
Without naming the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Syed accused the KESC of continuing with its ways under pressure from “a Karachi-based party.” The ANP-Sindh chief argued that those sacked were Sindhi, Pashtoon, Punjabi and Baloch. He said that areas with predominance of these ethnicities were most-affected in terms of shutdowns. Syed claimed that that since the past 30 days, workers have been protesting but not neither the KESC nor the government is taking notice of the matter. He said that the ANP will decide its next line of action against the KESC if the matter remain unresolved after the 72-hours deadline.
