ISLAMABAD: Dense fog is likely to invade the plains of the country from Thursday (December 14) onward due to persistent cold wave gripping most parts of the country, according to weather experts.
“The present rainy spell that started from Monday will end on Wednesday in most parts of the country, while temperatures will significantly fall in the coming days,” Imran Ahmad Siddiqui of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said Tuesday.
Talking to reporters, he said that the Met office had earlier forecast three rainy spells during the month of December and the present rain spell was the second one. The third rain spell is likely to start in most parts of the country during the last ten days of the month, he added.
The Met department official further revealed that there were also chances of frost in the coming days due to persistent chilly weather. The present spell of rain had replenished the water reservoirs, benefited the wheat crop and relieved the citizens from smog related diseases, he added.
Moreover, he said that snowfall would continue in the Galiyat, Muzzaffarabad and other mountainous areas of the country.
During the next 24 hours, more rains/thunderstorms along with snowfall was expected at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, while cold weather was likely to persist in Sindh and Balochistan. A westerly wave was also affecting the upper parts of the country and may persist for one more day.
