PESHAWAR: Members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assembly and the parliamentary leader of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), Sikandar Shepao regretted that despite the seriousness of the law and order situation, representatives of police and home department, as well as, a majority of treasury members were not present in the assembly.
The KP assembly on Friday discussed the existing law and order situation on a joint adjournment motion tabled in the KP assembly by Sikandar Sherpao of QWP and Nighat Orakzai of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
He said that the existing situation demands that militancy and all its manifestations must be monitored in a result oriented way so that the sacrifices of those who laid their lives for the noble cause would not go in vain.
QWP parliamentarians said that we have to play a proactive role and devise a strategy to prevent the occurrence of such incidents in the future. They said that an increase in incidents of militancy and extortion have been witnessed in the last four months which needs the due attention of concerned authorities.
Sikandar Shepao said that steps should also be taken to strengthen relations with Afghanistan as peace and serenity in the neighbouring country is directly related to the peace in our land.
Nighat Orakzai, who was a joint mover of the adjournment motion, also criticized the inadequate presence of the police and home department in the assembly during her debate. She expressed concern over the working of proscribed organizations under different names in the country.
Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman said that the people of our country and security forces have rendered matchless sacrifices for the elimination of militancy and the establishment of peace in the motherland. He said that desirable results and favourable outcomes could only be guaranteed if decisions taken in public forums are implemented properly.
Shaukat Yousafzai of PTI said that unless and until the security situation in Afghanistan is not improved it would be difficult to establish peace in Pakistan. He stated that a satisfactory situation of law and order in tribal areas is a prerequisite to establish peace, suggesting a merger of FATA to secure the border areas and unwanted border infiltration. He also said that the severity of the matter demands that we should unite, avoid unnecessary criticism of each other and an effective plan is devised with mutual concurrence.
Awami National Party (ANP) Parliamentary leader, Sardar Hussain Babak said that it is astonishing how militancy is a problem of the whole region but Pakistan alone is bearing the brunt of this menace.
He also condemned the Agricultural Institute attack and demanded a judicial inquiry of the incident. Babak questioned the details of the incident asking ‘who had closed the exit gate of the institute’.
