ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday approved, in principle, a proposal for the establishment of Capital Mass Transit Authority for the purpose of planning, operation and maintenance of Metro Bus Service that would ply between the new Islamabad International Airport and main residential areas of the federal capital and Rawalpindi.
The decision was taken during a meeting held here at the PM’s Office on Islamabad Metro Bus Project, which was being constructed to cater to the transportation needs of the residents of the twin cities after the completion of new Islamabad International Airport.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Communication Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Capital Development Authority Chairman Ansar Sheikh, Punjab Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Sibtain Fazal-e-Haleem, National Highways Authority (NHA) Chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar, Finance Secretary Shahid Mehmood, the secretary to the prime minister and other senior officials.
The prime minister directed that necessary legislation to this effect should be initiated and the expertise of Punjab Mass Transit Authority be utilised for the establishment of the statutory body within a minimum possible time frame.
He also directed the NHA chairman to ensure timely completion of the infrastructure and allied works on the new Islamabad airport link road.
Later, PM Abbasi also met students of Cadet College Qila Saifullah at the PM Office as part of his initiative to invite youth to visit the highest offices in the country.
During the meeting, the prime minister asked the students about their education, hobbies and interests. He also answered their queries regarding functioning of democratic institutions, the role of parliament and its responsibilities towards the citizens.
The students thanked the PM for giving them an opportunity to visit his office, which they said would help them gain a deeper insight into the functioning of state machinery.
