ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday adjourned an appeal hearing by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against Shoaib Shaikh and others regarding the IT scam that brought disgrace to the IT industry as a whole.

The appeal was filed by the FIA against Shoaib Shaikh, CEO and chairman of Axact, who was granted bail after he had admitted having taken a bribe before an inquiry panel.

On May 27, 2015, the FIA detained at least 32 employees including the executive body members and the CEO during raids in Rawalpindi and Karachi after the New York Times published a story about the issuance of millions of fake degrees by Axact.

The FIA had also seized the main server, computers and files from the office and demanded the company to provide web hosting records for the past 10 years.

Pakistani authorities including the FIA, after this episode acted against all such entities involved in fake degree resultantly taking Shoaib Shaikh, Waqas Atiq and many others into custody.

In Pakistan, even after two years have passed, appropriate action has not been taken against the culprits.

FIA filed an appeal before the IHC when former Additional District and Sessions Judge Pervaiz-ul-Qadir Memon granted bail to Shoaib Shaikh. The judge, Memon, admitted before a two-member panel to have taken a bribe for releasing Shoaib Shaikh on bail, however, he later Memon retracted his confession.

Judge Justice Athar Minallah is now hearing the appeal against the bail granted to Shoaib Shaikh.
