Delivering a speech on Pakistan’s perspective on the changes taking place in South Asia and the prospects for peace and stability in the region, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry Tuesday said that Pakistan’s ties with China will not be at the expense of the 70-year robust relations with the United States.

According to Express Tribune, Chaudhry was speaking in Washington DC at an event hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

The envoy said that when Pakistan and the United States worked together, they always succeeded but when they did not, they almost certainly failed.

Chaudhry also said that Pakistan’s civil-military leadership was united in the fight on terror and will not allow any militant safe havens in the country.

The ambassador laid stress on the need for lasting peace in Afghanistan as it was in the best interests of both the countries. He further said that instability in the neighbouring country became a catalyst for terrorist attacks in Pakistan with porous borders.

Chaudhry said that the United States and Pakistan had the same goal in war-torn Afghanistan, adding that the two countries worked together to take into custody 600 al Qaeda operatives in the past.

According to Chaudhry, a comprehensive approach was needed to fight terrorism, not only counterterrorism efforts. He said that 125 acts of terrorism in Pakistan had been perpetrated by terrorists from Afghanistan.
