ISLAMABAD: Speaking to the media outside the court on Monday, Nawaz said, “It seems even in the Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen disqualification case, I will be the one disqualified.”

He said this while replying to a journalist’s question as to what he thought of PTI chief Imran Khan’s case still pending in the Supreme Court.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed the petition filed by ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif seeking the merging of corruption references filed against him and his children by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In his petition, Nawaz had sought joint trial in three references pertaining to the Avenfield properties, Flagship Investments and Al-Azizia Steel Mills. The short order was read out by Justice Aamer Farooq.

Earlier in the day, the accountability court had suspended its hearing into the corruption references as it awaited the high court’s decision on Nawaz’s petition.

In the morning, Nawaz, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Mohammad Safdar had arrived at the accountability court after landing at Islamabad airport. The former premier was welcomed at the court by a large number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers.

The bureau’s prosecution team and three witnesses also appeared before the court.

As the hearing began, Nawaz’s lawyer Khawaja Harris requested the court to suspend proceedings until the IHC announces its decision.
