Says Aamir Khan faction getting stronger than Farooq-led group
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM) Deputy Convener Kamran Tessori on Sunday announced to quit the party owing to differences with the top leadership.
Tessori said he was not consulted for important party decisions despite the fact he was a senior leader of the party, which made him to part ways with MQM.
Another reason behind his abandoning the MQM-P is said to be the rising influence of Aamir Khan’s faction in the party, in contrast to Farooq Sattar. Tessori resignation is not that surprising as he also did not travel to Hyderabad with the party leadership to attend a rally on Sunday.
A gold trader and former Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) leader, Tessori had joined MQM earlier this year and risen to prominence soon after. Analysts say Tessori, a jewels trader, was inducted into the party after the MQM-P struggled with financiers for everyday operations and his rise in the party was a result of his efforts in easing the financial burden of the Farooq-led party.
Tessori also contested PP-114 by-election against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Saeed Ghani, in which he only managed to secure 18000 votes. Ghani had defeated him by a margin of 5000 votes.
Tessori’s reservations against the faction of Aamir Khan can also be corroborated by the fact that MNA Salman Mujahid Baloch had told a private news channel that Dr Sattar and Aamir Khan were heading their separate groups within the MQM-P.
The Aamir Khan group consist of Faisal Sabzwari, Khwaja Izhar, and others; while Kamran Tessori, Kanwar Naveed Jameel, and Khwaja Sohail Mansoor were in Dr Sattar’s faction, Baloch had said following his expulsion from the party.
