Neglecting sanitation directorate in past affected standard of cleanliness: Mayor Anser

Islamabad Mayor and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Sheikh Ansar Aziz has said that Sanitation Directorate is the one of important formation of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) but this formation was neglected in the past due to which standard of cleanliness in the city adversely affected.

“Taking into consideration, importance of this department, MCI took practical steps to adopt modern cleanliness system. Under this system, the cleanliness services are being provided both in the urban and rural areas of the city.”

Sheikh Ansar Aziz expressed these views while chairing a monthly review meeting of Sanitation Directorate here on Saturday. Senior officers of the MCI including Chief Metropolitan Officer Asad Mehboob Kyani and Director Sanitation Sardar Khan Zimri attended the meeting.

The mayor said that in order to utilise latest technology in cleanliness system, tender from both national and multinational companies were sought and it was expected that by adopting modern system cleanliness would be improved. He said that by utilising latest machinery and equipments better results could be achieved.

He further added that MCI was comprised upon the elected representatives from all over the city who were well-aware about the problems of their respective union councils (UCs). Therefore, the importance was being given to the suggestions for provision of civic amenities and sanitation services.

The meeting was also told that the complaints were processed for resolving issues of the residents of the city promptly and efficiently. During October, 2017, out of 176 complaints regarding different issues pertaining to sanitation, 161 complaints were promptly resolved and 06 were under process for early disposal by the concerned formations. Moreover, complainants have also been informed about the status of their complaints.

Complaints received from different areas including Margalla Town, F-8/3, G-11/2, G-9/1, G-6/1, G-9/4, F-8/1, G-7/1, G-10/1, G-11/4, I-8/4, I-10/2, G-10/4, G-9/3, G-10/3, G-8/1, F-7/1, F-11/2, G-6/2, G-6/4, F-11/3, F-10/2, G-11/1, Shehzad Town, G-11/4, F-6/4, F-7/4, I-9/1, G-7/4 and other areas.

He said that the clean and green campaign of the MCI was in full swing. This campaign has reached Sector G-9 after its start from Sector G-6. He further added that for the first time thickly populated areas of the city have been targeted during this campaign.
