ADELAIDE: Rain became the chief tormentor on the first day of the first ever day and night Ashes test that started at the Adelaide Oval today after Joe Root became the first captain who opted to bowl in a day and night test match.

It was shocking decision to have a bowl on the flat Adelaide pitch that is the best to bat on the first three of the test match. Australia started confidently with their new opening pair in Cameron Bancroft and David Warner making full use of the flat pitch of the first day. Australia went unchanged in the second test match while England handed fast bowler Craig Overton a debut in place of Jake Ball.

Former cricketers and commentators alike have criticized Joe Roots decision to bat first, however, any further analysis can only be made at the end of the first days play. Only 13.4 overs have been possible on the first day.
