LAHORE: On the special directions of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal will be celebrated with full religious zeal and fervour in the Punjab jails.
In line with the directions, the jail buildings will be illuminated across the province. Speech, na’at and Holy Quran’s recitation competitions will be held in the jails to be attended by superintendents, DIG and IG jails. Ministers, MNAs, MPAs and other notables will be invited.
During the ceremonies, special prayers will be offered for the country and sweets will be distributed among the inmates.
The Punjab government has also arranged special food-items for the prisoners on the occasion of 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal. Halwa, sweet zarda, chicken biriyani, chicken korma, vermicelli and Kashmiri tea will be given and the prisoners, as well as jails’ staff, will jointly celebrate this day.
On the happy occasion of 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, a special remission of two months (60 days) has been announced for the prisoners that will benefit thousands of prisoners.
Moreover, due to the efforts of the Punjab government, around 50 prisoners who were confined in jails for the payment of qisas, diyyat, arsh daman and fines are being released from various jails after the payment of Rs 75 lakh.
