ECP adjourns hearing of Zia Afridi’s disqualification case

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of disqualification reference against former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf minister and MPA Ziaullah Afridi till December 11.

A four-member ECP bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice Sardar Raza Khan heard the reference filed by PTI seeking disqualification of its expelled MPA Ziaullah Afridi as member of KP Assembly for crossing floor by the ECP.

During the hearing, PTI counsel Mustafa Sherpao said that newspapers reported the news of Afridi joining PPP and PPP website also mentioned Afridi joining the party. Afridi haD also been referring himself as a member of PPP in media talks.

The counsel stated that strangely Afridi while responding to PTI’s show-cause notice had denied joining PPP or quitting PTI. He added that Afridi was dismissed from the cabinet on charges of corruption.

Afridi’s counsel Latif Khosa said that on the reference filed against his client, KP Assembly Speaker had ruled that his joining PPP was in violation of Article 63 of the constitution. He said that PTI submitted different documents each time. He added that he had many objections to the reference filed by it. Moreover, he said that he would file a response after examining documents filed by PTI. He sought time for filing the reply.

Upon this, the ECP adjourned the hearing of the case till December 11.
