ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister Muhammad Ali Durrani Tuesday said that the first Islamic Military Alliance will play a crucial role in restoring peace and eradicate terrorism from Islamic countries.

He said the appreciation of Islamic Military Alliance by China and the United States of America reflected that this revolutionary step would help remove negative propaganda about Islamic countries.

During an interview with Al-Jazeera, Durrani said that the Islamic Military Alliance had given a clear message to the international community that the Muslims were united against terrorism and would defeat this menace through continuous struggle.

The formation of this military alliance was a strict and straightforward message to extremists and terrorists that Islamic countries would not tolerate any terrorist activity on their soils, he added.

He also said that this was a very positive development in light of present international scenario, while adding that this would help in countering conspiracies being hatched against the Muslim countries.

Moreover, Durrani said that this joint initiative of Islamic countries had negated the international propaganda that the Islamic world had strong connections with terrorist organisations or being involved in patronizing militant groups.

To a question, he said it cannot be presumed that any Islamic country which was not a part of the Islamic Military Alliance at this time would not have any role in the fight again terrorism in the future. It had already been cleared that this alliance was not related to any specific country or sect, but was created purely to fight against the scourge of terrorism, he added.

He further said that the purpose of this alliance was to formulate a comprehensive strategy against terrorism to pave the way for initiating joint efforts to tackle this issue once and for all. The initiatives to be taken under this alliance would be according to the law and guided principles of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the United Nations, he added.

Furthermore, the former federal minister said that the military alliance of Islamic countries under the leadership of General (r) Raheel Sharif would be the sixth biggest army of the world, which would provide a platform to the Muslim countries to discuss and suggest policies for countering the challenges being faced by the Islamic world.

He said that Pakistan had rendered immense financial and physical sacrifices in the global war against terrorism. Inclusion of Pakistan in this alliance would help other countries to learn from the experiences of Pakistan in fighting battle-hardened militant outfits, he added.

To a question, the former federal minister said that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman had given a message of hope to the Islamic world, especially Muslim youth. This Islamic Military Alliance was portraying a positive image of Islamic countries at the international level which would directly benefit Muslim youth, especially those staying in western countries for education and employment purposes, he added.
