Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said Pakistan was diligently pursuing the war against terrorism and urged the international community for lending more support in its efforts.
“Pakistan has paid in terms of casualties and economy. We are fighting the war, which will benefit the whole world,” the PM told a Chinese media delegation at the PM House.
The 19-member delegation headed by Wang Dongmei, Vice President of China Radio International comprised journalists from Shanghai Dragon television, China Radio International and Tencent web portal. Prime Minister Gilani said the war on terror was not confined to one nation but was a global phenomenon, which needed to be dealt accordingly. “Instead of mere criticism, the world needs to show more cooperation towards Pakistan,” he said.
He appreciated the statement by Chinese leadership acknowledging Pakistan’s contributions in war against terrorism and extremism besides pledging to support it in difficult times.
Vice President CRI Ms Dongmei apprised the Prime Minister about the delegation’s visit to Pakistan’s main cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Gilgit. She said it was their common observation that the situation in Pakistan as depicted by the international media reports was not true. She said the visiting delegation had prepared some 200 news and television reports which would dissipate positive message about the real situation in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that the government is holding the second energy summit, on May 31, to take all the stakeholders on board and formulate energy conservation strategy for this summer.
The main issue to be resolved in the summit would be circular debt and strategy needed to resolve the issue of payment for fuel supplies. The mounting circular debt has added to the load shedding because of which the independent power producers (IPPs) are not producing electricity to full capacity due to fuel shortage. The ‘effective’ policies of the government, the PM added, have helped reduce the energy shortage to a ‘great extent’. The prime minister expressed these views while talking to Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Water and Power who called on him at the Prime Minister House Thursday afternoon. The PM asked the minister to formulate policies to motivate foreign as well as local investors to invest in energy sector.
The PM must first set his house in order. Heads should have rolled for the series of security and intelligence debacles that have embarrassed this country. Instead what we see it that a Lady Lecturer is put under illegal confinement in Rawalpindi Airport police station on the complaint of a serving Major Tabassum. There seems to be no realization that discipline has to be enforced in our security establishment and they must realize they are there to serve the people and not the reverse.
