Tragedy averted: Suicide vests recovered close to TLYR campsite in Pindi

RAWALPINDI: A major terror bid was foiled when Pakistan Army soldiers and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) recovered suicide jackets in Sadar area of Rawalpindi on Monday.

According to details, three suicide vests were spotted in a shopping bag along Mall Road in Sadar area.

Two of these jackets exploded with a loud bang, while the third one was made ineffective by BDS officials.

Witnesses said that the explosion was heard in distant places. No casualties were reported, but the incident stirred terror amongst the residents of Rawalpindi.

After the incident, security forces issued high alert in the city and contingents are deployed at the sensitive points.

When approached, Cantt police station SHO Tahir sounded ignorant of the incident. According to him, only dirty clothes were found in the polythene bag.

FIVE HAND GRENADES RECOVERED IN MULTAN:

In Multan, five hand grenades were recovered from an abandoned place near Head Muhammad Wala.

Official sources said that some locals had spotted the hand grenades on the roadside in Binda Sandeela village. After being informed, CTD, police and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) officials reached the spot and defused the grenades.

POLICE DEFUSE HAND GRENADE IN QUETTA:

Police in Quetta defused a hand grenade found near Higher Education Office in the provincial capital on Monday.

According to police sources, a police team along with Bomb Disposal Squad personnel acting upon information reached the site and defused the hand grenade which was hurled at the Higher Education Office by unidentified persons.

Police cordoned off the entire area and started efforts to trace out the suspects. Further investigation is underway.

FIVE TERRORISTS APPREHENDED:

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Monday arrested five alleged terrorists belonging to a banned outfit from Mutan’s Bunda Sandheela area.

According to the CTD spokesman, the terrorists were planning to attack important installations, when the CTD conducted a raid and arrested them.

The CTD also recovered a 30-bore pistol from their possession. The alleged terrorists were identified as Abu Bakar, Abuzar, Numaan, Mubeen and Arslan.
