KARACHI: In a bid to decrease instances of street crime in the province, Sindh government has made it compulsory for all motorcyclists to install tracking devices in their motorcycles.
Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal presided over the meeting in which the decision was taken. Personnel from Sindh police, excise department, Rangers, Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), tracking companies and motorcycle manufacturers were present at the meeting.
Members of the meeting also decided that motorcycles which were found to be without tracking devices six months after the issuance of the order would be impounded.
The provincial government said that the names of tracking companies authorised to carry out the task will be released soon, adding that it would be mandatory for all new motorcycles to be registered before they were brought on the roads.
The meeting was informed that around 600,000 new motorcycles were being purchased in the province per year, and the new orders had been passed to curb street crime since a large number of these crimes were reportedly committed by motorcycle riders.
The home minister also expressed concerns over the non-registration of Qingqi rickshaws and ordered that they should be registered without any delay.
