  • Secretary Najam Shah says Punjab govt to spend Rs 460m on construction of infrastructure

 

LAHORE: Punjab Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmad Shah has said that centralised pathological labs in Lahore and Multan are being established on which 460 million rupees estimated to be spent.

Presiding over a meeting at the Civil Secretariat to review the progress on the establishment of the laboratories, he said that the government would be responsible for the construction of all the infrastructure. Both the labs would be outsourced and the contracting company/firm would be responsible for installation of equipment/machinery, provision of kits and other accessories on their own expenses.

He said that executing agency of this project would be the Punjab Health Initiatives Management Company (PHIMC). Besides Additional Health Secretary Shahid-ur-Rehman, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, officials of the Infrastructural Development Authority (IDAP), Finance Department and the Planning & Development Department attended the meeting.

QUALITY LAB TESTS: The meeting informed that lands adjacent to the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore and the Multan Institute of Cardiology have been allocated for the laboratories. A summary has been sent for the approval of releasing the funds. Moreover, IDAP has invited tenders for the projects. Secretary Najam Shah said that provision of extension has been provided in both the projects to meet the future requirements.

He said that the teaching hospitals of Lahore and Multan would be attached with the respective central lab while satellite labs would also be established in these hospitals. He said that all the laboratory tests would be of international standard for which the government would pay to the laboratories.

He said that quality lab tests were one of the basic requirement for the accurate treatments of the patients, therefore, the government was taking initiatives for providing international quality tests. “Such laboratories would be established at all divisional headquarters in future,” he also announced.
