LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday increased the annual grant of Gulab Devi Hospital from Rs 100 million to Rs 130 million. He was addressing a ceremony in connection with the 75th founding day of Gulab Devi Hospital.
Members of the national and provincial assemblies, Gulab Devi Hospital Managing Committee Chairman Syed Shahid Ali, philanthropists, local and foreign health experts, senior doctors and paramedical staff were at the ceremony.
He said the hospital had 34 beds when it was established in 1934 but now it had a capacity of 1500 beds with the cooperation of philanthropists and government and it was encouraging that diseases besides TB were also being treated in the hospital.
He added that despite the government’s effort to improve the health sector, there was still an impression that private hospitals provided better healthcare than government hospitals, which was something that had to be addressed.
He said the national resources were plundered by the previous government, nepotism was promoted and merit was flouted. Citing the example of Lahore-Kasur Road, he said favourite contractors were awarded contracts for this Rs 5 billion project, who fled to Dubai after taking payments in advance.
