Women from the flood-hit areas on Wednesday staged a protest rally against the government’s failure to address their problems and ensure timely completion of rehabilitation process. A large number woman participated in the rally which started from the National Press Club and culminated in front of the Parliament House.
The rally was organised by the Action Aid Pakistan and Potohar Organisation for Development Advocacy (PODA). Speaking on the occasion, the protesters highlighted their miseries, saying women were the worst victims of the 2010 floods because of their pre-existing vulnerabilities. They said even after almost a year, millions of women were still desperately striving to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
They urged the government to focus on the plight of flood affected women on a priority basis in the upcoming fiscal budget and demanded the issuance of watan cards, providing proper shelter and creating income generating opportunities.
