ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Farhatullah Babar claimed on Friday that there were secret torture cells operating throughout the country.

He said that investigation bodies had turned these torture cells like those present in the notorious prisons Guantanamo Bay and Bagram, Babar said.

He further said that no one, including the parliament and Supreme Court, knows about how many such torture cells are present, the number of people that are present there and the number of people that have died during interrogation. He further said that no one knew what happened to the people who died.

He said that the apex court was told that 45 such prisons existed in the country, but this figure was contrary to the fact.

Babar urged Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani to send a parliamentary delegation to visit the detention centres under his watch to see how bad the conditions of the prison are.
