Universities should promote quality education, research: KP governor

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that universities must focus on the provision of quality education and research as the provision of quality education is of paramount importance for the development of society.

He was addressing a two-day national conference on “Emerging trends in computing, statistics and mathematical sciences” held at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU), Peshawar on Tuesday. The conference was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Razia Sultana, Professor Dr Suleman Mazhar, Professor Dr Sirajul Islam, Professor Dr Tasawar, faculty members, prominent researchers and scholars from all over the country and students of the university.

The governor said that SBBWU was playing an important role in the provision of standard and higher education besides promoting research. He added that universities are fountainheads of knowledge and play a vital role in nations’ development. The governor appreciated SBBWU’s efforts in organising the national conference.

The governor also acknowledged the university’s efforts in providing opportunities of higher education to female students from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and said that this would help in the promotion of higher education in FATA.

Earlier, the vice-chancellor of the university highlighted the aims and objectives of the conference.
