Islamabad Police on Monday booked the owners of defunct airlines Bhoja Air for their alleged negligence and violation of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations, due to which the private airline’s aircraft crashed into a hill near Islamabad on April 20, 2012.
The crash had claimed the lives of all 127 passengers and crew members onboard the aircraft, that lost control and crashed a few kilometres away from Islamabad airport.
A petition was filed by the son of a woman who died in the crash, on which the authorities concerned registered a criminal case following the orders of a district judge. The petitioner had earlier requested that a case could be registered against the defunct airline’s owners, based on the findings of a two-member commission formed by the Islamabad High Court after the crash in order to identify the culprits behind the incident.
Per details, a case had been registered against the owners of Bhoja Air, namely Farooq Omar Bhoja and Arshad Jalil, under murder, damage, negligence, and criminal conspiracy sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Other people booked in the case included, Bhoja Air shareholders and directors, along with Jet Aviation Shahjah, owned by Jalil. In addition, some Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials have also been nominated in the case, who allegedly ignored certain regulations set by the aviation authority.
