Meeting of the sub-committee on Weights and Measurement was held on Tuesday, which was chaired by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Khurram Dastgir and attended by Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Arifa Khalid, the Punjab labour secretary, additional inspector general of police, labour director and others.
The meeting was informed that the labour department conducted 95,465 inspections during the present month and lauded 2,998 prosecutions while fines worth Rs 0.10 million were imposed on various traders for violation of weights and measures laws.
The meeting was informed that an awareness campaign would be launched for awareness of the general public regarding purchase of daily-necessary items according to correct weights and measures and vide publicity will also be initiated regarding free complaint number 0800-33888 for registration of complaints by any buyer against any trader. The meeting also reviewed penal laws regarding violation of weights and measurement laws.
