ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday jolted the government by implementing a roadmap to pull out from the coalition by boycotting the proceedings of the Senate, National Assembly and Sindh Assembly as first step of the strategy.
The MQM legislators boycotted the proceedings of both Houses of parliament to protest against the government’s failure to control the skyrocketing prices, particularly the recent increase in prices of petroleum products.
In the National Assembly, MQM MNA Wasim Akhtar, on a point of order, lashed out at the government’s inaction over price-hike and increasing petroleum prices and power tariff.
“The MQM rejects the recent increase in petroleum prices and power tariff. Unfortunately, parliamentarians are not discussing issues faced by the people but are busy highlighting the problems of landlords,” he said and announced boycott of the proceedings.
In the Senate, MQM leader Senator Babar Ghouri announced the boycott.
Later, talking to Pakistan Today, he said his party had decided to boycott both the sessions, as the government was not paying heed to the problems of the people.
Meanwhile, the MQM also staged a walkout from the Sindh Assembly to protest against price across the country and the recent increase in petroleum prices.
All MQM members left the House soon after proceedings of the session started.
