1,214 girl schools non-functional in Sindh, PA told

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly was informed Thursday that of the total 6,868 girl schools in Sindh, 5,654 were functional and 1,214 non-functional, while some 28,144 schools were co-education where girls were also enrolled.

This was stated by Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar during questions and answers session on the Sindh Assembly floor.

The session, earlier, started with the recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat Sharif with Deputy Speaker Syeda Shehla Raza in the chair.

The minister giving details of the girl schools said that there were nine schools in Hyderabad region, six in Karachi, five in Larkana, three in Mirpurkhas, three in Shaheed Benazirabad and three in Sukkur region.

To a question, he said that there were total 45,447 schools in the province and out of them, 593 were under the control of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) as per annual census 2015-16.

To another question, he said that the construction work on the new building of government girls middle Khadhan had been started by the Works and Services Department, Badin, which was damaged during the floods of 2011.

To a question regarding non-payment of salaries to teachers recruited during 2012 and 2013, the minister said that all teachers recruited through test conducted by the National Testing Services (NTS) were getting their salaries.
