FAISALABAD: A probe is still pending into the killing of a suspect during an alleged encounter that took place during day hours in Faisalabad the other day.
According to an unverified mobile footage the suspect appeared to be unarmed.
The deceased’s relatives claimed that the police had lodged a fake case against the suspect, Asif Sardar who had married the daughter of a police officer against his wishes.
Asif’s brother Shahid claimed, “My brother was killed in a fake encounter. There was no case registered against him. He was killed because he married a girl of his choice, who happens to be the daughter of a police officer.”
On the other hand, police reports stated that they asked three men on a motorcycle to pull over in Gulberg area of the city. However, they retaliated by opening fire on the police officials.
During the ensuing firing, two of the suspects managed to escape from the scene of the incident. Another wounded suspect was surrounded by the police officials.
In the meantime, a policeman in civvies appeared and shot the injured man, resulting in his death. As per police reports, the suspect was armed.
Contrary to police claims, the mobile phone footage of the incident does not show that the suspect was armed.
As per police reports, the deceased had been alleged of involvement in several criminal activities, including three robberies in Gujranwala.
