PESHAWAR: Pakistan is as corrupt as India, Bangladesh or any other country in the region, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Monday.

While addressing the media in Peshawar, he said that the people who are saying that Pakistan is the most corrupt country in the world are just defaming the country for their own political gains. While taking a jibe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, he stated that Pakistan is no more corrupt than any other regional country, including India and Bangladesh, and is equally honest as well.

He also claimed that Pakistan’s image in the last few years has grown from a burnt down, crashed plane to one of peace and prosperity.

He also said there was a time when people used to call a day ‘peaceful’ when people died in single digits and Pakistan is now doing much better in terms of safety and security.

“Target killings, batta khori, load shedding, all of these issues have reduced significantly. While applauding the efforts made by the government and other institutions, he said that Pakistan is much better now; economically and security wise.

He also said that according to the World Bank, Pakistan’s economy is known to have the highest growth rate in the last ten years.

Quoting Pricewaters Cooper foundation (PwC) he added, “PwC has said that Pakistan’s economy will be the top in the next 30 years if we continue down this road”.

He concluded by saying that the last four years have been good for the country and there has been progress at a good rate.
