The family of Lieutenant Yasir Abbas Naqvi, the first person who resisted the terrorist attack at the PNS Mehran Karachi, was awaiting the arrival of his body late Monday night. Naqvi’s family was visited by friends and army officials who consoled the grieving family. It was a quiet evening at Col Jaffar Abbas’s residence, Naqvi’s father. Yasir, the only brother of three sisters, was planning to get married in the near future. Naqvi had left for duty to Karachi eight months ago, during which his father was allotted a house at Askari 10.
The 24-year-old lieutenant had yet to visit his new house. Naqvi’s family was informed of his death through a telephone call, after which the young officer’s father flew to Karachi and accompanied his son’s body to Lahore. Many army officers visited the Naqvi’s house during the day. The Lahore base commander navy said that Naqvi was a competent officer. Bilal, Naqvi’s childhood friend, describes Naqvi as a fearless man. “The only passion he had was his country and he proved it. He always wanted to serve the Pakistan army,” he said. He said Naqvi used to pray five times a day and had always wished to die for his country.
