MIRPUR: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Masood Khan said Saturday that the two-nation theory is as important today as it was in 1947.

Addressing a conference to celebrate works and contribution of Mujaddid Alf Sani, organised by Alami Idara Tanzeem-ul-Islam, the AJK president said that Mujaddid Alf Sani had led the first wave of Islamic renaissance in South Asia, thus laying the foundation for the two-nation theory.

He said the people of AJK were being punished by Indian zealots because of their adherence to the two-nation theory.

In 1947-48, around 250,000 Muslims were killed in Jammu at the behest of the ruler of Kashmir and with the collusion of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) extremists.

Masood Khan said that ever since that time, the Indian occupation forces in Indian Occupied Kashmir have never stopped torturing and killing Kashmiris.

He said, “The Kashmiris were being chastised for being Muslims.” The occupier had also invited large waves of non-Kashmiri Hindus to change the demographics of the region, he added.

He further said that Indian Hindu supremacists, mainly comprising of Brahmans, too believed in a two-nation theory, but did not want to admit it publicly. Their insidious agenda was to subjugate Muslims in India, kill them in Kashmir, and suppress the rising Muslim nations in the neighborhood, especially Pakistan, he added.

Moreover, the president said that India’s bias against Muslims was evident from the fact that it was backing the Myanmar government which was killing Rohinga Muslims, while adding that India had also closed its border for the Rohinga refugees fleeing extreme violence in Burma.

The president appealed to the audience to express their solidarity with the suffering people of Kashmir through practical steps, such as telling the world about the horrendous situation prevalent in occupied Kashmir and developing world opinion regarding the persecution of Muslims in India.

He also said that instead of being reactionary, the Muslims should fight off persecution by practicing and spreading the true spirit of Islam, based on principles of peace, love, tolerance, co-existence and welfare. In this context, a dialogue with all nations and civilisations was important, he added.
