LAHORE: Islami Jamiat Taliba (IJT) activists on Wednesday staged a protest in Punjab University demanding the termination of former principal of College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES), Professor Dr Iftikhar Ahmad Baloch.
IJT activists from different institutions of the city gathered at PU Chemical Engineering Department and took out a rally against Baloch.
Shouting slogans like “Zinda hay Jamiat Zinda hay” and “Baloch is a rapist”, the activists abused the former principal for his alleged sexual harassment of two students.
After the protest against Baloch, the IJT activists searched the entire varsity, picking out male and female students sitting together.
An IJT activist, seeking anonymity, said that they will start an operation against students ‘mingling’ together, and their protest on Wednesday was a warning for such students who sit together in the campus.
PU IJT Nazim Zubair Safdar and IJT’s Secretary Information Saqlain condemned the females’ harassment and said that IJT activists have always opposed such incidents at the varsity and Baloch should be terminated.
Zubair said that Baloch targeted IJT members and spoiled their future while a number of IJT members were near completion of their degrees but were expelled due to Baloch’s biased decisions.
He said that they tried to talk to Dr Baloch several times to clarify theiposition but he denied them a hearing and continued to expel IJT members.
