PESHAWAR: The Regional Board Meeting (RBM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) National Accountability Bureau (NAB) authorized several enquiries and approved filling of references in Accountability Court of Shangla deputy commissioner (DC), Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) director and officers of Pakistan State Oil Company Limited (PSO).

The board recommended conversion of enquiry into an investigation against Shangla deputy commissioner and others regarding corruption and corrupt practices and embezzlement of funds to the tune of Rs123.8 million.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of KP NAB Director General Brigadier (retd) Farooq Nasir Awan here at Peshawar.  The meeting was attended by directors, additional directors, case officers, senior legal consultants and other officers concerned, said a press release issued on Sunday.

The subjects are alleged to have been involved in embezzlement of funds for the rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by the flood in the year 2016.  During the course of the enquiry, it was discovered that the Shangla deputy commissioner misused his authority and criminally and illegally enabled the executive agencies to select contractor without advertisement and disbursed funds without any official formalities.

The flow of funds also suggests that TMO’s and tehsil nazim were at the same time executors, monitors, contractors and disbursers of the funds allocated for the rehabilitation of infrastructure, causing huge loss to national exchequer.

Besides this, the board also approved filling of a reference approved against PDA Director Aminud Din regarding the accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income worth Rs64.69 million. The assets include residential properties and businesses.

Another reference was approved by officers of PSO, customs department and others regarding misappropriation and misuse of authority committed in the consignments of petroleum tankers for export to Afghanistan via Torkham Border.  The officials were involved in fake exports of 55 consignments of POL products, as sold out in the local market, causing loss of Rs23 million to the national exchequer.

At the end of the meeting, the director general appealed to the general public to join hands with KP NAB for the eradication of corruption from the province.
