PESHAWAR: A senior Afghan government official visiting the city for medical treatment was allegedly abducted on Friday, Afghan Consul General in Peshawar Moin Mrastyal said on Saturday.

According to the Afghan diplomat, Muhammad Nabi Ahmadi, the deputy governor of Afghanistan’s Kunar province, was “abducted” from Peshawar’s Dabgar area. Ahmadi had been in Peshawar for treatment of a medical ailment, he added.

“At first we thought that he was somewhere nearby when he didn’t respond to our calls,” Mrastyal said, adding that they then informed the Kabul government and also the Pakistani high-ups about the incident.

Mrastyal said he was in regular touch with the KP police and had also informed the KP governor about Ahmadi’s abduction.

Local police officials said they were trying to locate the Afghan governor and rescue him.

Last year, former Afghan governor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi was rescued in Mardan, two weeks after he was abducted in Islamabad.
