Sindh CM, NAB chief order inquiry into NTS paper leak

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has ordered an inquiry into a leak of NTS entry test paper here on Friday.

According to a statement, a notification to this effect has also been issued. On the directives of the chief minister, the Sindh Health Department has constituted an inquiry committee to probe improper conduct of entry test of the public sector medical colleges and universities on September 22, through the National Testing Service (NTS) at various centres.

Health Department Special Secretary (Admin) Aijaz Ahmed Mahesar will head the committee as chairman along with Dr Muhammed Akahlaq Khan, director general of the Health Services Hyderabad, Dr Khalil Ahmed Pathan, Medical Superintendent of the Lyari General Hospital of Karachi, Mohsin Shaikh, Additional Director Development at the Health Department of Karachi, and Dr Nadeem Akhtar Shaikh, Additional Director (field) of the Directorate of Health, as members.

The terms of reference of the committee are as follows: To ascertain the varsity of the allegations appearing in print and social media that question paper & answer key were leaked and provided to candidates prior to test on receiving illegal gratification. To probe into the process involved for the entry test conducted through NTS for admissions in public sector institutions.

To record and probe statements of the stakeholders including the students and parents. The committee has been directed to submit its findings along with recommendations within 10 days. The committee has also been allowed to co-opt any member for assistance as per requirement.

On the other hand, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Javed Iqbal also ordered inquiry against the National Testing Service regarding leakage of the paper umpteen time, alleged embezzlement and for not protecting the interests of the students. He stated that bureau would make sure protection of the students’ interests.

He said that the papers were leaked out several times and this way rights of hardworking students stood encroached upon. It is worth mentioning here that a day before a number of students seeking admission to medical colleges staged a demonstration along with their parents against paper leakage in the Chandka Medical College in Larkana. –APP/ONLINE
