The number of recorded attacks on refugees in Germany sharply fell this year, local media reported on Thursday.

Citing figures from the Federal Criminal Police Office, the Heilbronner Stimme daily said 226 criminal offenses against refugee lodgings were recorded in 2017, a sharp decrease from 2016, when 995 cases were reported.

Most of the attacks were carried out by individuals identified by police as right-wing extremists.

Germany witnessed the arrival of over 1 million refugees in 2015 when 1031 offenses against them were recorded, the highest figure in recent years.
