ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first Sufi opera singer, Saira Peter on Monday performed at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) where she enthralled the audience with her exhilarating performance.

She began her performance with a single ‘Sometimes’ from her album Resplendent, which was an English translation of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s work.

This is the third time that the Sufi singer has performed in Islamabad, accompanied by a group of local musicians including Sajjad Sufi, Salman Adil, Jeeway Laal, Nazaka Ali and Zahid Ali, who were playing the tabla, flute, dholak, the harmonium and keyboard respectively.

Apart from her Sufi opera renditions, she also sang Punjabi and Urdu songs including the poetry of Hazrat Baba Buleh Shah.

She told the audiences that she was trying to promote a soft image of Pakistan in the West by singing in their language.

She also said that her second album would be based on the poems of Hazrat Baba Buleh Shah and Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
