Two more bodies were found in the River Ravi during the rescue operation that continued on Saturday. The death toll has reached four while the rescuers are still searching for the body of a minor boy.
According to the Rescue 1122 officials, rescuers found two bodies on Friday but as three persons including one boy named Hamza were missing, the rescuers continued their operation on Saturday.
Water Rescue Team on Saturday found bodies of two female victims out of which one was identified as Samina. The bodies were handed over to their families after legal formalities. Meanwhile, a non-technical Rescue 1122 official went unconscious due to snakebite during the rescue operation.
The rescuer was identified as Haq Nawaz who had joined Rescue 1122 after leaving the Pakistan Navy. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical. Nawaz was actually Emergency Medical Technician and he was ‘forced’ to work as a member of Water Rescue Team. A senior Rescue 1122 officer, requesting anonymity, told Pakistan Today that due to a shortage of standard gadgets for the Water Rescue Teams, the lives of rescuers were on risk. He said that only skilled divers with proper equipment/gadgets should be sent for rescue operations.
