No harm in making Shehbaz head of PML-N: Jamali

Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Saturday voiced support for the idea that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif should lead the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N).

Speaking during a TV show, he endorsed PML-N leader and Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Pirzada’s demand to bring Nawaz’s younger brother to party’s fore. On Thursday, Pirzada asked Shehbaz to take over the reins of the ruling party.

He urged Nawaz Sharif to step down as the party president as he was facing a court trial over corruption charges. “It is crucial that we list right thing as right, if the ruling party wants to stay intact,” he warned.

A few days ago before parting ways with the ruling party, Jamali had suggested the PML-N head to refrain from confrontation with the institutions. He claimed that Nawaz Sharif had in 1988 asked General Aslam Baig to impose martial law. He said that the former prime minister was following India for his personal business gains.
