ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on National History and Literary Heritage (NH&LH) Irfan Siddiqui on Friday said that the government was taking effective measures for providing best medical treatment and facilities to diabetic patients in the country.
He said that considering the increased ratio of diabetic patients, collaborative efforts of public and private sector were direly needed to get the desired results for effectively combating the disease. He said this while speaking at an event held at Diabetic Centre.
The advisor to the PM lauded the efforts of Diabetic Center Chairman Dr Asjad Hameed and his fellows, and said that foreign qualified physicians were rendering valuable contributions to this institute.
Moreover, Siddiqui said that such efforts portrayed a positive picture of the country at the international level and must be appreciated by the people.
He also said that diabetes was spreading rapidly in the country, however, it was a positive sign that this institute, being the first and unique treatment centre in the country, was working hard to curb the disease, adding that it would get the status of a full fledge hospital soon.
Siddiqui stated that provision of quality health services to the masses was the prime responsibility of the state, however, keeping in view the current circumstances, the private sector must join hands with the government for defeating this disease.
After the event, the advisor also took a round of the different departments of the institution and inquired after the health of patients and asked about the facilities provided to them.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Asjad said that he visited Pakistan every month for a week and served the patients here. This institute was providing medical care through latest technology and equipment to save the lives of patients, he added.
He said that the dedicated team of physicians of this institute had saved the legs of 1,700 diabetic patients through successful operations.
He thanked PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Siddiqui for their interest and patronage for this cause, and added that it gave them confidence and moral support.
Dr Asjad informed that the construction work of the first ever diabetic hospital in the country would be completed by December this year.
