Ahsan asks FIA to adopt zero tolerance policy towards corruption

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday said that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) should adopt zero tolerance policy towards corruption to eliminate this menace from Pakistan.

The minister visited the FIA headquarters here and presided over the meeting of officers and reviewed its performance.

On the occasion, the minister said that black sheep would be removed from the FIA, while adding that the agency would be made an exemplary institution by reforming it on modern lines. FIA should acquire capability to control crimes through use of new technology, the minister emphasised.

The interior minister further said that the FIA academy should be reorganised and made an effective institution and officers from friendly countries should also be invited to attend the training programmes. The minister instructed that officials should deal courteously with the passengers that landed at airports around the country.

He said effective and practicable steps should be taken for stopping human smuggling as due to this criminal activity, the country’s reputation at the international level was being negatively impacted.

The minister ordered that those involved in illegal activities should be dealt with strictly, while adding that effective steps should be taken to stop the elements which were spreading extremism, chaos and instability through the social media. He said anti-Pakistan elements were trying to create anarchy in the society by using social media as a tool.

Furthermore, the minister said that the FIA would have to play an active role to stop cybercrimes in the country.

Moreover, he said that the agency should also take action against professional beggars who were cause of bad name for Pakistan, in countries such as Saudi Arabia.

Later, he issued orders for the provision of better facilities for those officers who would show good performance.
