ISLAMABAD: The Safe Blood Transfusion Programme (SBTP) has organised a training workshop on Wednesday at the Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital (FGPC) Department of Pathology, on the regulatory aspect of blood banking.
The workshop was attended by the management and technical representatives of blood banks operating in the federal capital.
Speaking on the occasion, the experts at the workshop highlighted the importance of introducing regulations in transfusion medicine and increasing public awareness on licensing procedures in this regard.
Technical presentations were made by transfusion medicine experts, including Dr Muhammad Arshad, Dr Humayun Shafique Satti, Dr Shareef Astori, Dr Muhammad Rehan and Usman Waheed. The presentations were related to the standardised blood banks processes used in the vein-to-vein transfusion chain.
The experts also discussed in detail the quality criteria in each section, besides discussing in detail the inspection checklist for the procedure.
The concluding session was chaired by FGPC Executive Director Dr Zahid Larak. The event was also attended by SBTP National Coordinator Professor Hassan Abbas Zaheer, FGPC Pathology Department Head Dr Syed Imtiaz Hassan, SBTP Deputy Director Dr Amir Maqbool and Dr Roohi Khalil.
