Calling Kurram Agency a disaster hit area, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights on Friday urged Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani to take notice of the atrocities committed by the insurgence against the helpless civilians of Parachinar and direct security forces to restore peace in the troubled area.
A delegation of youth from Parachinar gave a detailed presentation to the committee, chaired by Riaz Fityana, and informed it that there was a sever shortage of medicine, food and other household items, resulting in the deaths of dozens of people daily. “There is great injustice, brutality and violation of human rights against the innocent Toori and Bangish tribes of the agency,” PML-N MNA Javaid Hashim said.
Fityana said if peace was not restored in Kurram Agency there would be a military operation. The committee also formed a three member committee to be led by Adviser to Prime Minister on Human Rights Mustafa Khokhar and comprising of MOI Brig (r) Lodhi, Additional Secretary Defence to take the delegation to various officials concerned to redress their issues.
