Karachi to have 10,000 CCTV cameras to curtail crime against women

KARACHI: Karachi may soon have 10,000 closed-circuit television cameras installed at different sites, along with some cameras already functional, under the domain of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and city police respectively, said Sindh Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon here on Tuesday.

In a briefing to the standing committee of Senate on Human Rights about measures adopted to contain instances of knife attacks on women in certain parts of Karachi, he said the newly installed CCTV cameras will be managed by Sindh Rangers and other intelligence cum law enforcement agencies.

Senators Nasreen Jalil, Farhatullah Babar and Nisar Muhammad, along with Sindh Home Secretary Qazi Shahid Pervez, Sindh Additional IGP Mushtaq Mahar, Karachi DIG Sultan Khawaja, IG (Prisons) Nusrat Mangan and other officials were also present on the occasion.
